MSA UBC has reviewed emerging fatawas/statements from the BCMA, Canadian Coucil of Imams, The Assembly of Muslim Jurists in America and Sheikh Abdurrahman Murad and will not be hosting any Jumuah Salat on Friday March 13th amid concerns of COVID-19 spreading.
This measure is to minimize further spread of COVID-19 in the greater community, particularly in the elderly and immunocompromised population. BC health officials have also placed a ban on all events with more than 250 people, including religious gatherings as a preventative measure.
In lieu of Jumuah Salat, Muslims are advised to pray Salat al Dhuhr in its usual form of 4 Rakahs.
Individuals currently experiencing symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose and sneezing are advised not to attend public gatherings and should restrict activities outside of home.
What should I do if I think I have COVID-19?
Contact a health care provider as soon as possible if you have symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing and have traveled outside Canada or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19 and avoid contact with others.
Call your health care provider ahead of time so they can arrange for you to be assessed safely or dial 8-1-1 if you are unsure about what to do.
Further updates will be announced via Facebook, Instagram and our website as they become available.
You may also reach out to MSA UBC for more information or if you have any questions.
We ask Allah (swt) for Shifaa and to grant us His support during this time.

UBC President and Vice Chancellor Santa J. Ono attended Jummuah earlier this month along with several members from his Office and observed the sermon and the prayer service.
